Dr Maureen Tong, CEO of Coach Companion South Africa

Dr Maureen Tong is an international lawyer; an executive coach and coach trainer; facilitator; professional speaker; a published author; and a business woman. She holds a PhD in international law from the Université de Strasbourg in France she successfully defended her PhD thesis in French.


She is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) of the International Coach Federation (ICF). She can train coaches in any part of the world because she has international certification from an Approved Coach Training Programme (ACTP) of the ICF. She is a member of the ICF. She is the former Deputy Company Secretary of Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA). She is a member of COMENSA.


Dr Tong is the President of the Pretoria Chapter of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa (PSASA). Her niche topics as a professional speaker are self-discovery; self-mastery and self-leadership. She lectures Leadership; Emotional, Social and Cultural Intelligence; Talent Management; Diversity and Inclusion; as well as Change Management at Wits Business School (WBS). She speaks on those same topics as a professional speaker.


She is the CEO of CoachCompanion South Africa. CoachCompanion Scandinavia AB operates in Sweden, Finland, Romania and South Africa.


Apart from high ranking government officials; Dr Tong has trained and coached executives and managers from international companies such as Daimler Chrysler; Mercedes Benz; Giesecke and Devrient; JCDecaux; as well as South African companies like the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund; Rohlig - Grindrod; Protea Coin; SAA, etc. In Botswana she has conducted training and management consultancy services at companies such as Boitekanelo Group; Boitekanelo College; Limkokwing University; Progressive Institute; and Rea Vaya Travel and Tours. She currently collaborates with Rostec School of Leadership and Governance to conduct training for politicians and senior government officials in East Africa.


Dr Tong is the Chairwoman of the InvesTong Group and Chairwoman of Kutlwelo Resources. Previously she was Chairperson of the Board of the Health Systems Trust (HST) and Chairwoman of the Board of the YWBN Corporate Finance Institution, whose application for a Mutual Bank licence is currently being considered by the South African Reserve Bank. She was Research Manager at the Women's Development Banking (WDB) Trust where she currently provides Company Secretariat services part-time.


She established the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute (TMALI) and served as Project Manager for the establishment of the Thabo Mbeki Presidential Library (TMPL); both of which are partnerships between the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and the University of South Africa (Unisa).


She was the first COO at the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform; Chief of Staff at the Ministry for Agriculture and Land Affairs; and Operations Manager at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She worked as Project Officer for Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Namibia at the African Management Services Company (AMSCO) a Project of the African Development Bank; the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She served as the Special Advisor to the Presidential Advisory Panel on Land Reform and Agriculture in South Africa from December 2018 – May 2019.
